July 28, 2010 Dear Friends of ACTION Philippines, Stepping aside, not Down During ACTION Philippine's annual Fil-Am picnic at 2nd Mile July 16 our Board chairman along with two other Board members lead a very meaningful "turning over the shepherd's staff" ceremony. This simple but profound activity symbolized my stepping aside as our team's director and turning it over to Mike Gingerich August 1. I'll be glad to serve under Mike and he'll do a fine job as God enables him in the years ahead. In ACTION all members have ministry responsibility so within the mission we strive to teach and model Biblical servant leadership while holding each other accountable to the Lord and one another but not with an un-biblical hierarchy of positional power. Philippians 2:3-4 gives us our mandate which says:
Even though I've served as our field's director for over 10 years I view this ministry transition as stepping aside, not down, so Mike and others whom the Lord is raising up to take servant leadership positions may do so while I serve the team and others in other capacities. Of course ACTION has recognized leadership positions with the accompanying authority to carry out each position's task but we serve with others' trust and confidence having proven that we serve under Christ's Lordship and His way of leadership is ours. Pray for Mike and me as we enter into our new positions of service, that Jesus Christ will be glorified, His people edified and many who don't know Jesus yet will come to a saving relationship with Him.
